Things today have been going along smoothly. I just finished with pretty much the worst class I have. They're a basically nice group of middle school students, but they're at that age when they are pretty set as to how their English language learning will progress. What I mean, is that it seems like many of them have plateaued and don't really feel the need or the desire to improve any more. They don't usuallly pay attention and I usually struggle with trying to get them to pay attention to me instead of the bizarre antics of each other. Plus they're too old to really send them to the walls. I've resorted a couple of times, when pushed to my limit, to calling in my boss to ball them out, but that hasn't had much effect. I kicked a few kids out one night a couple of weeks ago and that did get them in order for around a week or so. But, once again this week, they're pushing my buttons. I thought I'd take a different approach. Tick me off and/or speak corean in class, and you'll soon be hugging the floor doing push-ups. 5 for the first time and with each time thereafter 5 added on. I also marched them into the other middle school class and basically shamed them all when none of them did their homework for the umteenth time in a row. This worked at least partially. They were pretty embarrased to have the other class know they were slacking off. Only one kid didn't have his homework ready for today. He was even more embarrased to have to go back to the other class and tell them himself what he had done. As for the push-ups, they worked marginally. I'll have to decide maybe something else later on instead. They seemed more entertained watching each other than anything else. It was kinda funny though.....these 12 year old kids that couldn't even do girl push-ups. Oh......and no...I wouldn't ever do the same at home. Well....I might, if it were a sports practice, but here......ya gotta do what ya gotta do. It's just different.
